Four new COVID cases connected to outbreak

Australia's Victoria state reports four COVID-19 cases; source unknown

"While the [new Melbourne community] case announced today is not unexpected as a contact of a case announced yesterday, New Zealand officials have assessed that the most cautious option is to pause the travel bubble with Victoria as there are still several unknowns with the outbreak".

Victoria has recorded one new coronavirus case as health authorities race to contain a fresh outbreak in Melbourne ahead of the imposition of new restrictions.

From 6pm Tuesday, private gatherings in households will be limited to five people, with public gatherings limited to 30 people in the area.

Acting premier James Merlino said the restrictions were necessary and would apply to Melbournians wherever they travel outside greater Melbourne.

Schools and workplaces will stay open and there are no changes to current density rules.

Morrison, however, will take his plan on travel exemptions to the national cabinet - the group of federal and state government leaders - next week, the Australian newspaper said in a report on Monday, without citing any source. "We need to explore that, but we need to finish the very lengthy, very detailed interview with that case this morning", he said.

Professor Sutton confirmed the COVID-19 variant in the Whittlesea outbreak is B1617, which was first identified in India in October past year.

Nando's Epping and Woolworths Epping North joined Jump!

The four cases are a male in his 30s, a male and female in their 70s and a preschool-aged child.

Anyone who has attended a tier two exposure site to get tested urgently and isolate until you have a negative result.

The latest outbreak could impact this weekend's round of the AFL with Western Bulldogs players and staff now isolating after an employee visited an exposure site.

The health department last week admitted it had listed the wrong supermarket as an exposure site when the Wollert man tested positive earlier this month.

Anyone in New Zealand who has been at any of the locations of interest at the specified times should contact Healthline on 0800 358 5453 for advice on self-isolation and testing as soon as possible.

All domestic borders remain open despite most states and territories issuing updated travel advice for recent Victorian arrivals.

Victoria was the hardest-hit state during a second wave late a year ago, accounting for about 70 per cent of total cases and 90 per cent of deaths in Australia.

Victoria has 14 active cases, with the rest in hotel quarantine, and 14,892 tests in the 24 hours to Tuesday.

"The last thing Victoria can afford is going back into lockdown", he said.
