Alberta identifies 908 new COVID-19 cases, positivity rate of 9.1%

St. Albert's active COVID-19 cases continue to drop

Dr. Deena Hinshaw says the province's positivity rate stands at about 9.1 per cent. It's the lowest such rate recorded in Alberta since March 27, eight weeks ago.

In Morinville, active cases dropped from 37 to 33 overnight, while Sturgeon County saw its active cases decrease from 73 to 71.

There are now 16,577 active cases across Alberta, down from 17,675 on Thursday.

There are 10 new cases in the city today and 13 new recoveries. There are now 15,502 active cases in the province, the fewest since April 14 and significantly below the third-wave peak of more than 25,000 active infections.

Hospitalizations dropped Friday to 638 people receiving treatment, down from 665 on Thursday.

Alberta's total cases from the start of the pandemic is 222,279.

There were 617 people in hospital for COVID-19 including 164 in ICU.

With the exception of deaths, all those numbers were down from last Saturday.

On the vaccine front, 77,043 doses were administered over the last day, pushing Alberta over 2.4 million doses administered to date.

As of Saturday, 2,170 deaths in Alberta have been linked to COVID-19.

Fully vaccinated Albertans no longer have to quarantine if they are exposed to COVID-19 and are not showing symptoms, the province's chief medical officer of health said Thursday.

Hinshaw said it is important for Albertans to stay close to home this long weekend and only camp with members of their own household. That means 47.3 per cent of Albertans and 55.5 of eligible Albertans age 12 and over have had at least one dose of vaccine.

"Enjoy the good weather, spend time outside with your immediate family and book a vaccination appointment".
