Police said the shooting was reported around noon at an apartment complex near the Great Hills Plaza and The Arboretum shopping area in northwestern Austin. Police have not yet publicly revealed if or how Alyssa Broderick and Stephen Broderick are related. "At this point, we do not think this individual is out there targeting random people to shoot".
Officers found Stephen Broderick, 41, along a rural road around 7:30 a.m.in Manor, an Austin suburb, after receiving reports of a suspicious person matching the description of the suspect in Sunday's shooting, Manor Police Chief Ryan Phipps said.
According to reports, the suspect was a former Travis County detective and police believe he did know the victims. Chacon had said earlier that officials were concerned that Broderick "might possibly take a hostage and be himself sheltered somewhere waiting for us to leave".
Travis County District Attorney Jose Garza said in a statement that Broderick had been arrested for sexual assault of a child last June and was released on $50,000 bond.
The incident occurred shortly before noon at an apartment complex, a few blocks from a strip mall and Trader Joe's grocery store.
A child was also involved in the incident, but was unharmed and is in police custody, authorities said.
