The latest cases increased B.C.'s rolling weekly average to 868 cases per day - also a new record - and pushed the province's active caseload to 7,405, the highest it's been since January 1. The rest are recovering at home. Cases the county reports as "other", or people whose ethnicities go unreported, are at 17.8%.

A new outbreak has been declared at Vernon Jubilee Hospital, while the outbreak at Mission Memorial Hospital is now over.

While the use of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine on younger British Columbians is still suspended, health officials say that the province's age-based immunization program is still on track.

Health officials have now administered 756,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines in B.C., including 87,351 secondary doses.

Residents of the Interior Health region who are 73 and older, 18 and older if they are Indigenous and those who have received letters saying they are clinically extremely vulnerable can book appointments by calling 1-877-740-7747 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Out of the 1.2 million people who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in Washington, epidemiologists have reported evidence of 102 breakthrough cases in 18 counties since February 1, representing less than 0.01% of all fully vaccinated individuals in the northwestern US state. It also means no leisure travel or vacations outside your local community or region. "In the meantime, the current supply of AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD vaccine is being made available to people between the ages of 55 and 65 on the Lower Mainland - our highest transmission area". Any residents with questions about COVID-19 or the vaccine interest form may call Douglas County's help line at 785-864-9000.

Henry and Dix said those same frontline workers "remain a priority".

"The risk for all of us is too great, which means any of our usual travel and holiday weekend gatherings need to be put on hold this year", they say.

Some 634,997 doses of vaccine have been given out as of March 30.

"Third, we don't yet have enough people protected through the vaccines to be able to put aside any of our safety precautions, so we need to continue to follow all the public health orders and guidelines we have in place".
