Russell Westbrook Informs Rockets Front Office He Wants Out of Houston

Westbrook, 31, famously joined the Rockets a year ago after his former team, Oklahoma City Thunder, agreed to trade the -time NBA All-Star to Houston in exchange for fellow point guard Chris Paul, two protected first-round picks and other draft considerations.

"My understanding from a reliable source [is] that James Harden hasn't been talking with the organization for the last two weeks, hasn't been taking anybody's phone calls".

Amidst the rumors of the Houston Rockets being courted by the Los Angeles Clippers and New York Knicks in hopes of trading for Russell Westbrook, the former MVP has made sure his tenure in Houston is all but over after informing the team he wants out.

"Russ" reportedly told the team he's "uneasy about the team's accountability and culture" and wants to return to being a floor general like he was at Oklahoma City. Westbrook is under contract for at least two more seasons, so the Rockets are not obligated to move him at all. With a 4-1 series loss to the Lakers in the Western Conference semifinals, it was another unceremonious end to a Houston season.

Westbrook is owed $132.6 million over the next three years of his deal, with a player option worth over $47 million for the 2022-23 season that likely will present a big barrier in any trade talks.

James Harden is said to be "locked in" for next season and committed to the Rockets, The Athletic reported on Wednesday. Not to mention, with a new General Manager and head coach, it's clear the Rockets are going to be a much different team, moving forward.
