Why You Shouldn’t Buy Apple’s New MagSafe Duo Charger

Apple’s Mag Safe Duo is less powerful than the regular Mag Safe charger

According to the product description, the MagSafe Duo charger won't be able to deliver 15W peak charging speed like the regular MagSafe wireless charger. Add that to the cost of the MagSafe Duo and you're looking at just under $180. Unlike other MagSafe accessories, the Duo charger isn't available in shops yet, but Mark Gurman from Bloomberg spotted some interesting information about the gadget.

If a user instead buys a 27W USB-C power adapter, they still won't get the full 15W.

Apple's new MagSafe Duo, which will sell for $129, will only provide 11W charging with Apple's 20W USB Power Adapter. The closest is the 30W model, priced at $49. Just place your devices on the charger and a steady, efficient charge begins on contact.

It's also not entirely clear if Apple may be basing these new specs on the assumption that users will in fact be charging an Apple Watch at the same time.

In general, higher wattage means faster charging. That compares to the 15 watts you get with the solo MagSafe charger. In a nutshell, you will have to spend a total of Rs.18,800 to get the complete 14W wireless charging from MagSafe Duo charger without relying on third-party power adapter makers.

But before you get all hyped up to buy one, there's something you should know.

The iPhone 12 series was introduced with MagSafe which makes charging slightly more convenient than your usual Qi Wireless charging. Speaking of availability, the MagSafe Duo charger is still marked as "coming soon" on Apple's official online store in India.
