The 29-year-old has been out of action since the middle of last month, when he was on the receiving end of a awful challenge by Jordan Pickford.

According to the Daily Mail, Van Dijk has started light recovery training, as he continues to overcome a cruciate ligament injury.

"When you're in the tunnel before the game you look in front of you and behind you and think, "right, we've got a chance because we've got him in our team".

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez are amongst the Liverpool players who have been ruled out of action due to injuries.

A number of Liverpool fans have welcomed an injury update on Virgil van Dijk emerged on Thursday night.

After the two-week worldwide break, Liverpool will be back in Premier League action when they host table-toppers Leicester City in a marquee top-of-the-table clash and Jurgen Klopp has been boosted by the return to fitness of key players including Fabinho and Andrew Robertson.

"He's a huge miss, but hey, who's to say he won't be back for those big games at the end of the season? It's a huge blow".

With Mohamed Salah self-isolating in Egypt after testing positive for COVID-19, Liverpool could be without as many as nine first team players when they take on Leicester this weekend if none of their injury concerns prove their fitness over the next 48 hours.

The Ballon d'Or victor explained: "I have no doubts if these players were fit, then Liverpool are the best team in the land".

Williams has made five appearances for Liverpool this season and has played in all three of their Champions League group-stage matches so far.

After eight games of the Premier League campaign, the 27-year-old looks to be nearing a return to action after being spotted polishing his technique in training.
