In Durant in central MS one person died in the storms. Authorities in MS have confirmed the death of a second person from severe weather moving across the state. The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency didn't give details. The storms were among several in parts of the South and Midwest. In Missouri, at least two people were killed. (more...)

Rescue workers were dealing with gas leaks and downed power lines and trees, said Judge Don Kirkpatrick, the county's chief executive. Across the USA, 11 people have been killed by tornadoes and flooding in the Midwest and Southeast. Also, a 65-year-old woman in DeWitt in the eastern part of the state was struck and killed in her home by a falling tree, officials said. An officer fired at the vehicle and struck the teen, who was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. The police chief offered his condolences to the family. Others questioned the "unknown altercation" and how a vehicle could be backed down a street "aggressively". The location of the shooting is near the Dallas-Fire Rescue training facility on Dolphin Road near Interstate 30. "Please pray!" the Dallas Police Association tweeted . Law enforcement in Dallas are engaged with an active shooter and a firefighter has been shot, authorities say. Deputies say a baby was found after being taken for a ride in a stolen vehicle in east Harris County. A woman had put her child in a auto in the 1000 block of Pennygent in Channelview, then gone back briefly inside of her home. The child was reunited with her mother, and was later taken to an area hospital to be checked out to ensure she was not injured. We also do not have word of where the auto thief went, but it is believed they dropped the baby off by itself on the roadway. (more...)

The victim was identified as Darrien Singleton. Officers were called to the 1600 block of Asquith Street about 10 a.m. Sunday and found a 35-year-old man who had been shot in the back of the head. Upon arrival, officers found Steven Jackson, 18, of the Unit Block of N. Poppleton Street suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Lawson was shot in the abdomen. (more...)

A vehicle is part of the tornado debris field that was piled up on State Highway 80 in Fruitvale, Texas, late Saturday, April 29, 2017 . Some homes were destroyed during the storm. Christus Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler received two patients, a spokesperson said. A local auto dealership also was hit.
