Apple beats Q3 estimates with record Services revenue

In H2:CY19, a new wave of monetization opportunities in Services is expected to launch, providing users with more reasons to inhabit Planet Apple. Net profit fell 7 per cent against the year-ago quarter to US$10.05 billion. Apple revealed the forecast for its fiscal fourth quarter as part of its fiscal Q3 2019 earnings release . Competition in the smartphone world is huge, there's no denying that, and many companies have already failed to make their mark, so it remains to be seen what will ByteDance do differently to appeal to consumers. Other companies like ByteDance have also tried their hand at entering the phone market; Amazon trialed a Fire Phone back in 2015 which flopped just over a year after launch. (more...)

WhatsApp will be allowing its users to use their account on many devices at a time and the same has been confirmed by WABetaInfo which keeps track of WhatsApp features. It's not clear why WhatsApp has continued to restrict users from using multiple devices. Facebook-owned messaging platform WhatsApp has a desktop version since 2015 but you can use it only if your phone is connected to the internet and by extension turned on as well. (more...)

There is an integrated Cat-12 LTE WorldMode modem and Bluetooth 5.0 too. MediaTek on Tuesday launched its Helio G90 series of system-on-chips (SoCs) that are specifically designed for gaming phones. Rumours about MediaTek launching the Helio G90 in Shanghai first surfaced two weeks ago. Apart from offering game-focussed features, the MediaTek Helio G90 and Helio G90T support a night shot mode and work with a multi-camera framework supporting multiple lens choices. (more...)

For the current fiscal year, Sony downwardly revised its PlayStation division sales forecast by 4% to ¥2.2 trillion ($20.25 billion), due to lower than expected PS4 hardware sales and third-party software sales. I think the PS4 has the ability to sell millions more before the end of its lifecycle, and could even overtake the PS2 as the best selling console of all time. (more...)

Huawei's Chairman Liang Hua commented that the company is as strong as its ever been and credits that to the excellent management and perseverance despite the political tensions between the USA and China . Huawei founder and CEO Ren Zhengfei, for his part, earlier stressed that "it's not a hard task to come up with a new OS, but it's hard to build up an ecosystem for that". (more...)

Could Google’s innovative Pixel 4 gesture tracking be the next big thing?

Now that we know for certain that the Pixel 4 will come equipped with a Soli radar chip for recognizing hand movements, we're curious how Google intends to improve it over time. The downside will be that if the Pixel's face unlock isn't as fast or as secure as the iPhone's , that's going to be problematic. We'll see whether Soli bypasses that problem later in the year, with the Pixel 4 expected to debut in October 2019. (more...)

Acting as the highly anticipated successor to last year's Galaxy Tab S4 , reports suggest Samsung's next-gen tablet will inherit the former's 10.5-inch Super AMOLED display but also introduce some rather important changes that'll make it a more direct iPad Pro competitor. The company has already registered five new model numbers - A2197, A2228, A2068, A2198 and A2230 with the EEC earlier this year. The two new iPad models use the model identifiers A2200 and A2232. Well-regarded Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of TF International Securities said two new versions of Apple's iPad Pro will go into mass production in the fourth quarter of 2019 or the first quarter of 2020. Some of these laptops, like Lenovo's Legion Y740 Laptop Studio Edition , will likely pack NVIDIA's Studio driver (instead of the game-ready drivers) but otherwise, be similar or identical to the gaming versions.
