A brush fire that broke out near Pinyon Pines Thursday as hundreds of fire personnel were busy battling a 4,700-acre blaze to the north blackened about 100 acres within several hours. Five residential structures have been destroyed and 3,200 people have been evacuated. A state parks official says employees worked through the night to save historic artifacts from a Northern California Gold Rush-era museum threatened by wildfire. (more...)

One of the fires McGlover allegedly started is the Cranston Fire , which is actively burning on Federal land in the San Jacinto Ranger District, and is now 4,700 acres with zero percent containment. The San Bernardino National Forest had clouds that reached up to 50,000 feet, creating its own lightning storm as a result. Helicopters and planes dumped water and fire retardant on the area. Sony , one of the largest suppliers of image sensors for smartphones , has just announced the upcoming availability of its new IMX586 stacked CMOS image sensor for handset cameras. At 1.6µm as a combined pixel, you'll still be able to get a 12-megapixel photo where the LG G7's image would be reduced to 4 megapixels. Of course, this isn't ideal for daytime shots, so the image signal processor will perform array conversion in brighter environments for more detailed images with the 48MP ... (more...)

According to The Bell a merger would mean Samsung's flagship release would be limited to once a year, rather than every six months as the situation is now. However, nothing can be said for sure. The Gear moniker is nearly certainly set to be dropped for the Galaxy Watch name, and the release date would appear set for 9 August, but the actual look of the device and the software that will be packed inside is still somewhat up in the air. Loon finally graduated from X this month, becoming an Alphabet company in its own right. The Loon service uses balloons, powered by an on-board solar panel. No solid timeframe for deployment or details of the financial aspect of the deal has been released, but Telkom Kenya will provide the internet signal to be deployed in remote areas using the solar-powered balloons.
