The Patriots will exercise Cooks' 2018 option, according to Field Yates of ESPN, and will now have their top 2017 trade asset under team control for the next two seasons. In a draft that the Patriots did not own a pick in the first or second rounds, Cooks and Ealy are the two prizes. It's possible the Patriots sign Cooks to an extension before he plays for this option salary or tack said extension on top of the option year. (more...)
