- September 08, 2020

The mission has been delayed by the coronavirus pandemic and the follow-up lockdowns. Notably, although the contact has been lost with Chandrayaan-2's lander and rover, the orbiter is still doing its job and orbiting the Moon on a polar orbit at an altitude of 100 km, conducting high-resolution observations of the landing site prior to the separation of the lander from the orbiter. They give two possible scenarios for the misalignment: either the disk was torn apart by the gravitational pull from the stars, or by a newborn planet. The outcomes confirmed the ring's misalignment and confirmed that what they suspected all alongside was taking place 1,300 light-years away. "When we got the data from VLT and Alma, the pictures were stunning". (more...)

Earth's magnetic field - which is officially called a magnetotail - trails behind the planet as it speeds through space, orbiting our Sun. "But since we discovered water on the Moon , people have been speculating that there could be a greater variety of minerals than we realize if that water had reacted with rocks". (more...)
The most powerful black hole collision ever! The most powerful black hole collision ever!
- September 05, 2020

The team ran both simulations multiple times, tuning the parameters and studying the properties of the black hole mergers that emerged. According to current knowledge, the gravitational collapse of a star can not form black holes in the range of 60 to 120 solar masses because - at that size - the stars are completely blown apart by the supernova explosion that accompanies collapse. During launch, the rocket will produce 8.8 million pounds of thrust, "equivalent to more than 160,000 Corvette engines", as NASA puts it. The rocket fired for two minutes, with the booster performing nominally. (more...)
Astronomers detect gravitational waves from the most massive black hole merger yet
- September 03, 2020

Researchers observed the black hole using twin detectors of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory ( LIGO ) and the Virgo gravitational-wave detector in Italy. This said, it's important that there are some doubts about whether this signal came from a binary black-hole merger at all. The leading hypothesis is that black holes that fall in this range may be created by a series of smaller black hole mergers, in just the same way as the new, hefty intermediate-mass black hole ... When to see the Full Corn Moon over West Berkshire When to see the Full Corn Moon over West Berkshire
