NASA investing unusual 'dent' in Earth's magnetic field over South America
- August 19, 2020
NASA has taken it seriously as this unique phenomenon will finally result in weakening the earth's magnetic field and eventually affects the protective field that shields us from solar flares, and disrupts satellite communication. He stated that the region creates a magnetic weakness. If so, that could sign that the South Atlantic Anomaly is not a induce or precursor to the entire planet's magnetic field flipping , which is a little something that really happens, if not for hundreds of ... Tiny Asteroid Buzzes by Earth - the Closest Flyby on Record
- August 19, 2020
That's an incredibly close shave- the closest ever taped, in truth, according to asteroid trackers and a catalogue assembled by Sormano Astronomical Observatory in Italy. However objects are occasionally missed because they are obscured by the Sun, or are not in a telescope's line of sight. This raises some concerns about the possibility to spot on time a risky asteroid that could really cause some damage to our planet. (more...)

Tropical wave conditions to affect Dominica this morning
- August 19, 2020
Long range forecast data suggests this might be the first long-tracked tropical cyclone of the season, potentially bringing it close to the Lesser Antilles in about five or six days. We continue to monitor two systems in the Atlantic with good chances of development in the coming days. Again, it's too early to know many specifics with this system. (more...)

Betelgeuse may possibly be all set to go supernova
- August 16, 2020
Betelgeuse keeps getting dimmer, and everyone is wondering what exactly that means. "Astronomers have sampled stars maybe a year ahead of them going supernova , but not within days or weeks before it happened". It cools to form an enormous cloud of obscuring dust grains. "But, we do not know how a star behaves the week before, the night before it explodes", Dupree added. (more...)

Wind and solar energy is steadily replacing coal
- August 15, 2020
Generation from wind and solar rose by 14% during the first half of 2020 compared with the same period in 2019, while output from coal plants fell by 8.3%. Wind and solar continue to grow in line with the global average, reducing India's reliance on coal. Across the European Union, wind and solar produced a record fifth of the European Union's electricity during the first half of the year - overtaking coal, oil and gas for the first time . (more...)

Hubble solves mysterious dimming of 'Betelgeuse' star
- August 14, 2020
This dust cloud blocked the view of the star from Earth, affecting around a quarter of the star's surface in late 2019. By April 2020, the star had returned to its normal brightness. Their observations are part of a three-year Hubble study to monitor variations in the star's outer atmosphere. Hubble's ultraviolet capability allows it to see the hottest layers of the star, which can't be seen in visible light. (more...)
