NASA's 10-year time-lapse of Sun leaves netizens awestruck
- June 30, 2020

According to NASA, this information has facilitated astronomers in making various discoveries about the inner workings of our Sun and their effect on the solar system. The sun's quiescence wasn't a surprise; every 11 years or so, the sun's magnetic poles suddenly switch places; North becomes South, solar magnetic activity begins to wane, and the sun's surface starts to look like a tranquil sea of yellow fire. NASA releases 10-year time lapse of the Sun NASA releases 10-year time lapse of the Sun
- June 29, 2020

Each second of video time represents one day in the life of the Sun. NASA has released a 10-year timelapse of the Sun that is prepared by using data from the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO). While SDO has kept an unblinking eye pointed towards the Sun, there have been a few moments it missed, NASA said. The dark frames in the video are caused by Earth or the Moon eclipsing SDO as they pass between the spacecraft and the sun. (more...)

Super Earths Discovered Orbiting Nearby Red Dwarf Gliese 887 Super Earths Discovered Orbiting Nearby Red Dwarf Gliese 887
- June 27, 2020

Due to the gravitational pull exerted on the planet, tiny to and fro "wobbles" are created, which was measured by the scientists. They combined data from HARPS with measurements of the star-spanning for about 20 years. The unusually quiet nature of Gliese 887 suggests that if it does possess a planet within its habitable zone, that world might have a greater chance at life than other red dwarf planets, which often erupt with unsafe flares .
