Nasa sends astronauts into space for the first time in a decade
- April 19, 2020

Jim Bridenstine, the official of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, announced in a tweet that, "On May 27, NASA will once again launch American astronauts on American rockets from American soil". After successfully docking, Behnken and Hurley will be welcomed aboard station and will become members of the Expedition 63 crew. "Once NASA retired the space shuttle and lost the ability to fly humans, it became dependent on Russian Federation to launch its missions", the ... (more...)

- April 19, 2020

Scientists looked at a nine-state area from OR and Wyoming down through California and New Mexico , plus a sliver of southwestern Montana and parts of northern Mexico. Since temperatures are projected to keep rising, it is likely the drought will continue for the foreseeable future; or fade briefly only to return, say the researchers. (more...)

- April 19, 2020

Planets that exist within this region around their host stars are known to have the right conditions to support liquid water. While looking for the old data from NASA's Kepler space telescope , scientists have discovered an Earth-sized exoplanet orbiting in its star's habitable zone. (more...)

Teresa Anderson, climate policy coordinator at ActionAid International, said there were concerns over the lack of detail in Shell's climate plan. The new climate goals put the Anglo-Dutch company - at least on paper - ahead of the most progressive of its rivals, including BP and Italy's Eni. (more...)

- April 18, 2020

Highly-detailed observations of the star before and after passing the black hole confirmed one effect predicted by Einstein's General Theory of Relativity : The light from the star was redshifted, losing energy as it fought its way out of the intense gravitational field of the black hole. (more...)

She writes that one of the things that raised suspicions in the USA intelligence community is the fact that China was so quick to peg the virus' source as the wet market. As far back as February, the Chinese state-backed Wuhan Institute of Virology dismissed rumours that the virus may have been artificially synthesized at one of its laboratories or perhaps escaped from such a facility. - April 16, 2020

Yet despite its staggering distance from Earth , with one light year being around 5.88 trillion miles, NASA has deduced that it is the "most similar to Earth in size and estimated temperature" that Kepler has spotted. It orbits its star so closely that a year there is equivalent to only 19.5 Earth days. The rest were dubbed "false positives". "In terms of size and likely temperature, this is the most similar planet to Earth that has ever been found with Kepler", Jeffrey Coughlin, a ... (more...)
NASA's Curiosity team is operating the Mars rover from home
- April 16, 2020

The space agency said the team would normally be in a single room sharing screens, images and data but are now having to do that using online services and chatrooms. That includes some limitations to the amount of commands are sent each day. Seems like scientists at NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) are no different. (more...)
Astronomers find supernova explosion twice as bright as any in the universe Astronomers find supernova explosion twice as bright as any in the universe
- April 15, 2020

The discoverers of the unprecedented supernova, which is somewhat mysterious in origin, also say that it could serve as a guiding light for studying similar events from the universe's first billion years of existence. The shell fell off at the last second, relatively speaking, a mere few decades before the supernova, as opposed to several thousands of years prior to supernova, as happens normally. (more...)
Oumuamua might be a shard of a broken planet

In brand new research , Yun Zhang, an astrophysicist on the Cote d'Azur Observatory, and a colleague used laptop simulations to grasp how 'Oumuamua obtained its unusual form and trajectory by what occurs to varied orbiting objects in the event that they strayed, Icarus-like, too near their very own solar. The violence of the interaction would then hurl the malformed hunks out of the star's vicinity and into interstellar space, as they rapidly cool and solidify into their final shape. 'The elongated shape is more compelling when we considered the variation of material strength during the stellar encounter, ' Zhang said. In this foreign cosmic neighborhood, however, objects that come within about 220,000 miles of their star can succumb to its gravity and get literally ripped apart-a known process ... (more...)
Scientists discover supernova that outshines all others
- April 14, 2020

Astronomers have spotted the biggest and brightest supernova explosion yet spotted and theorize it may have been sparked by two huge stars smashing together. The light emitted in ordinary supernovae is usually less than 1% of the total energy. "While many supernovae are discovered every night, most are in massive galaxies", Peter Blanchard, the co-author of the study, stated. (more...)
