NASA's Curiosity rover just released its highest-resolution panorama of the Mars that has a file size of 2.43 GB. Curiosity "worked" throughout the Thanksgiving as its Earth-bound team took a day off to enjoy the holiday. Ashwin Vasavada, Curiosity's project scientist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, said Curiosity produced the feast for the eyes during the Thanksgiving celebration. (more...)

As per the U.S. space agency, the record-breaking, gargantuan eruption came from a black hole in a galaxy cluster said almost 400 million light years away - which to put it simply, is really far away. Authors of the study believe an excess amount of gas being supplied to the black hole caused the eruption, which itself was possibly caused by a galaxy falling to the center of the cluster. (more...)

An additional paper in Nature Communications details the InSight spacecraft's landing site, a shallow crater nicknamed "Homestead hollow" in a region called Elysium Planitia. One explanation for the relative weakness of these quakes could be that Mars, unlike Earth, probably consists of only one continuous tectonic plate. This puts the planet's profile of seismic activity somewhere between Earth's (high) and the Moon's (low).
