They also looked at samples from Bremen, a city in Germany, and a remote part of the Swiss Alps. Many countries let waste leak into the environment, and that plastic and microplastic can last for a long time - and travel a long way. The particles were very small, ranging in size from 475 microns (less than half a millimeter) to just 11 microns. The researchers recorded more than 10,000 miscellaneous particles per litre in some of their samples taken from the region's Svalbard islands. (more...)
Young Jupiter Collided With A Chaotic Newborn Planet Young Jupiter Collided With A Chaotic Newborn Planet
- August 16, 2019

In fact, the Juno data suggests that the planet has a diluted core containing heavy elements-those other than hydrogen or helium-which extends to almost half of Jupiter's radius. It's been reported by BGR that a massive impact, while the planet was still forming, could be the best explanation. "It sounded very unlikely to me", Isella says, "like a one-in-a-trillion probability. (more...)

Complicating matters further is the fact we're less than two days away from a full moon. Here's what else you need to know to catch the Perseids in Miami. The Earth then crosses the comet's orbit between July and August, slamming into the orbital debris. As the comet swings around the Sun every 133 years, bits and pieces of rock and dust break off under the Sun's intense heat. (more...)
