A new report from the World Health Organisation (WHO) has found that global air pollution has a vast and devastating impact on children's health. It was also found to increase the risk of cancer and other chronic illnesses later in life like cardiovascular disease. It however advised parents to avoid household air pollution by using less polluting fuels for cooking and heating , as well as not smoking in the house. (more...)

At 1100 a.m. AST (1500 UTC), the center of Subtropical Storm Oscar was located near latitude 27.3 north, longitude 48.4 west. The latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center forecasts Oscar to be a strong tropical storm by the end of the weekend and a hurricane early in the coming week. (more...)

An entire Hawaiian island has vanished under the waves in the wake of Hurricane Walaka. As it became known, a powerful storm hit on a Hawaiian island and literally washed it in the open ocean. It was bout half a mile long and 400ft wide - the second largest in the French Frigate Shoals. If the launch from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in Sichuan succeeds, three more such objects are planned for launch in 2022, Wu Chunfeng, head of Tian Fu New Area Science Society in Chengdu, told " China Daily " Thursday. Together they can illuminate an area of around 3,600 to 6,400 sq km (1,390 to 2,470 sq miles) on Earth for 24 hours. NASA scientists captured the image on an IceBridge flight, an airborne survey of polar ice. 'The iceberg's sharp angles and flat surface indicate that it probably recently calved from the ice shelf '. She compared the process to a fingernail growing too long and cracking off. NASA's ongoing, decades-long survey of polar ice has yielded some truly incredible photographs over the years, but one recent still captured what appears to be a perfectly, nearly impossibly rectangular iceberg.
