The tropical storm depression is expected to bring at least two to four inches of rain and wind gusts as high as 35mph, according to the Miami Herald . Long-range tracks from the European model's ensemble show a lot of spread at such a long lead time, but the possibility of it reaching the USA coast certainly exists. (more...)

NASA and Russian remark officers confused the six astronauts were in no hazard. This morning the astronauts gathered in the station's Russian segment, which is believed to be the source of the leak. NASA pays about $81 million per seat on the Soyuz to fly astronauts to and from the space station. The Soyuz is one of two docked at the orbiting lab, having arrived at the ISS in June carrying three astronauts. (more...)

The Atlantic Ocean temperature is starting to heat up and fewer strong plumes of dust coming off the western coast of Africa mean conditions are becoming a bit more favorable for tropical development. Along with more consistency among other forecast models, it is looking more like this tropical wave moves out of the Caribbean and toward the Florida straights over the Labor Day Weekend. (more...)

The carcasses were found in an advanced stage of decomposition in Barra de Colotepec. The office said the 393-foot long net that trapped the endangered turtles had not been approved by the government for use in fishing. They are believed to be the species olive ridley, also known as the Pacific ridley sea turtle. The office of the federal attorney for environmental protection (PROFEPA) said it would investigate the case. (more...)

The potential cyclone is now located east of the Cabo Verde Islands, according to the NHC, and is moving in a west/northwesterly direction. The predicted track would take the storm out over the central Atlantic Ocean, where it is expected to become a hurricane. (more...)

It has been traced to a small hole in a capsule that was used to deliver a new crew to the laboratory 400km (250 miles) above the Earth in June. Feustel said the crew was testing a plug that was held in place with tape, and a Russian crewmate reported that the results looked promising. (more...)

Bernard the goat being offered a smiling and angry face. Now, as the BBC reports, a new study has found that goats may also be able to distinguish between humans' facial expressions. The effect was most obvious when the happy face was positioned on the right side of the testing arena. The study builds on the field exploring the inner lives of domesticated animals. (more...)

Hilo International Airport got 36.76 inches of rain, making it "the wettest four-day period ever observed at Hilo, with records dating back to 1949", the NWS says. Scattered rain has continued to fall on much of Hawaii, but relief is on the way, forecasters say. Waiakea Uka, located just south of Hilo on the Big Island, has picked up 1,177mm since Wednesday, while Piihonua picked up 1,135mm of rainfall through Saturday morning. (more...)
