Astronomers used radar data from the orbiting European spacecraft Mars Express to find the water. With surface temperatures as low as minus 68C, it would not exist as a liquid under normal conditions. However, the presence of liquid water at the base of Martian polar caps was first hypothesized in a study 31 years ago. But because of the thin atmosphere and the cooling of the planet, most of its water is locked up in ice. (more...)

Researchers collected more than three years of radar data from the European Space Agency's Mars Express mission. With surface temperatures as low as minus 68C, it would not exist as a liquid under normal conditions. "Discovery of a large water supply on Mars confirms we're heading in the right direction". If you're now asking yourself, "Wait, didn't they already find water on Mars?" then you're not wrong. (more...)

The total eclipse lasted 1 hour, 42 minutes and 57 seconds, though a partial eclipse preceded and follows, meaning the moon will spend a total of almost 4 hours in the Earth's umbral shadow, according to Nasa . Then there are partial eclipses, where just part of the moon passes through the dark umbra, or shadow. On the banks of India's Ganges, temples were closed ahead of the eclipse. (more...)

The massive galaxy, although mostly shredded, left behind a rich trail of evidence - an nearly invisible halo of stars larger than the Andromeda galaxy itself, and a separate compact galaxy M32. For a long time the three discs swirled away near each other, sucking up matter and other smaller galaxies. The Andromeda galaxy and M32p existed in harmony until around 2 billion years ago, but then something shifted. (more...)
