Footage from the Russian space agency Roscosmos showed recovery helicopters circling as the capsule touched down at 18:39 local time (12:39 GMT) on Sunday, sending up a cloud of dust. The crew completed hundreds of experiments, including materials testing, a study of the effect of microgravity on the bone marrow and research into plant growth in space. (more...)

SpaceX has landed these boosters 25 times, and reflown them on a dozen occasions. The Falcon 9 rocket will be carrying the SES 12 communications satellite for SES of Luxembourg. Musk also wants to reuse the two-stage Falon 9's upper stage and its payload fairing - the nose cone that protects satellites during launch. It was be the company's 11th launch of the year, and the 13th time SpaceX has reused a Falcon booster. (more...)

The Dawn probe would reportedly be running out of fuel soon in this fall after its final orbit. Those images showed that on the boundary of the Sputnik Planitia ice plain on the planet, pushed up against a major mountain range, there was a series of dunes spread across an area less than 75 kilometers across. SpaceX may try to recover the Falcon 9 fairings at sea, which make up the rocket's nose cone, where the payload is encased. But the mission will now launch no earlier than Monday, June 4, SpaceX representatives said. The satellite will replace NSS-6 at this location and will be co-located with SES-8. SES says the satellite will have a lifespan of roughly 15 years, and will be replacing an aging satellite with coverage over parts of Asia, including Russian Federation and Japan, and even ... With the discovery of a 240-million-year-old Megachirella wachtleri fossil that was found hidden in the Dolomites in Italy, scientists have now recovered what is believed to be the oldest known lizard fossil in existence. The team found a tiny bone in Megachirella's lower jaw that is unique to the squamate family. A bear had also escaped from the zoo in Lunebach, but was shot by authorities. German media reports have suggested the animals' enclosures were damaged in a storm, after a river overflowed and damaged fences. Numerous police, zookeepers, and firefighters are combing the zoo looking for the animals before they wandered into the town.
