Japan is under fire after it emerged that it had killed over 120 pregnant whales in the summer of 2017. Japan has previously justified its whaling on an exemption in global law which allows the animals to be killed for scientific purposes, but Australia won a 2014 case at the worldwide Court of Justice which ruled against the Japanese program in the Southern Ocean. The authors propose that the reef has been able to re-establish itself over time due to continuity of reef habitats with corals and coralline-algae and the reef's ability to migrate laterally at between 0.2 and 1.5 metres a year. "The "toasty" camera (below right), as Ingalls calls it, is likely headed for display somewhere at NASA Headquarters in Washington , DC. He expects that will be a completely normal assignment".
