Alberto is expected to drop anywhere from 4 to 8 inches of rain in the Florida peninsula and up to 12 inches in isolated areas. "The main concern from Alberto is flooding; not so much along the immediate coast, but inland, from the heavy rains that are coming on top of over a week of rain across the southeast", said Chuck Watson, a disaster modeler at Enki Research in Savannah, Georgia. Environment Canada is advising anyone with symptoms to go indoors and reschedule any strenuous outdoor activities until the statement is lifted. "These conditions pose a health risk when you are not used to the heat", said the national weather agency. Moderate risk AQHI values are expected throughout today with the potential of high risk AQHI values this afternoon in southwestern Ontario, and possibly Monday afternoon in extreme southwestern Ontario too. A system was brewing in the southern Gulf on Thursday that has a 70 per cent chance of becoming a tropical cyclone, the US National Hurricane Centre (NHC) said. NOAA touted its sophisticated technology, "from next-generation models and satellite data to new and improved forecast and graphical products", to forecast storms and help the public make informed decisions. This shut encounter, which is able to happen on January 1, 2019, about 1 billion miles (1.6 billion kilometers) past Pluto's orbit, is the centerpiece of New Horizons' prolonged mission. The solar model for Pluto's formation hasn't yet been completely ruled out, however. In addition to the comet model, the researchers also investigated a model whereby Pluto formed from very cold ices with chemical compositions similar to that of the Sun. (more...)
