U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures were at $47.60 a barrel, up 5 cents, or 0.11 percent. That was the lowest settlement July 24, according to FactSet data. However, petrol stocks climbed by 301,000 barrels, compared with analyst expectations in a Reuters poll for a 1.1-million barrel decline. Earlier, Tanveer had requested Swaraj to grant her a medical visa and said she should not be denied it as India is about to celebrate the auspicious occasion of its 70th Independence Day. Tanveer later appealed for her case to the politicians in Pakistan and in India. The external affairs minister had a few weeks back said that Pakistani nationals seeking visas for medical treatment in India must accompany their visa applications with a recommendation letter by the top diplomat. For this year, the International Monetary Fund expects China's economy to grow 6.7 percent, unchanged from a forecast in July, above the government's target of about 6.5 per cent, though growth likely peaked in the first quarter. China's economy expanded 6.9 per cent in the first half of the year. The IMF acknowledged that China has made structural reforms in recent years, but noted that more was needed in order to genuinely get debt levels under control and grow the economy sustainably. "This means that Uber's operations will continue until the motion is resolved". Effective Sept. 15, 2017, minimum-wage earners will see their pay increase to $11.35 per hour from $10.85 per hour, giving B.C. the third-highest minimum wage among Canada's provinces - up from seventh position. Val Litwin, president of the BC Chamber of Commerce, in an interview said it's not opposed to increases to the minimum wage. Currently, only Saskatchewan and Newfoundland and Labrador have a lower minimum wage than British Columbia. (more...)
