President Trump plans to sign an executive order invoking the Defense Production Act to compel meat processing plants to remain open during the coronavirus pandemic, Bloomberg first reported Tuesday. Tyson Foods, one of the world's biggest meat producers, was forced to close factories in four United States cities last week as it tested workers. It reported a 48pc slump in pre-tax profits to $3.2bn (€2.95bn) for the first three months of 2020. The Asia-focused bank also pushed back parts of its restructuring programme until at least till the end of 2020. Brent crude was down $2.32, or 10.60%, at $29.67 a barrel. The reason for the narrower spread in Brent is that it is the pricing mechanism for two-thirds of the world's petroleum and is a seaborne crude oil. (more...)

But the CFIB says business owners who pay themselves in dividends wouldn't be included in the wage subsidy program, and won't be eligible if they changed the legal structure of the business since March 15. Peel Public Health says 31 residents have died in long-term care homes. In total, an eligible employee who works 40 hours a week would receive $3,560 in additional compensation, said the province .
