Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei has said the Chinese telecoms giant will slash production by $30bn (£23.9bn) over the next two years as a US-led backlash against the firm intensifies. This is the first time that Huawei has quantified the impact of the US action against the company and Ren's downbeat assessment comes after weeks of defiant comments from company executives who maintained Huawei was technologically self-sufficient. The department will start accepting new product applications on October 17. From the model year 2020, a growing number of Toyota cars sold in the US will be equipped with automatic systems created to make a driver's life easier in this respect, with two of such system to be offered. Toyota Safety Sense, which offers equipment like pre-collision avoidance, lane departure warning, and automatic emergency braking, is already standard on a majority of the manufacturer's vehicles. The news came at the Uber Elevate Summit in Washington, where the California-based ride-hailing giant offered new details on its vision for flying taxis as a way to ease traffic congestion and improve urban mobility. Uber predicts the 19km trip will take about 10 minutes - slashing the usual travel time by up to 50 minutes. India had announced retaliatory tariffs worth $230 million on 29 American goods in June a year ago. India had been the biggest beneficiary of the scheme, which allowed it to export some $5.6bn worth of goods to the U.S. The retaliatory tariffs, triggered by the USA announcing higher duties on Indian steel and aluminium past year, were deferred multiple times in view of the trade dialogue between the two countries. One of them is Target who has now introduced a same-day delivery option for a number of its United States customers thanks to Shipt , a delivery startup that was acquired by the company in 2017, for $550 million. Shipt costs $99 per year, and with its app, customers can place and pay for someone to pick up their order and bring it to them - orders that fall below $35 incur a $7 delivery fee, while orders above $35 are free. Vodafone Ireland has said that it has identified the root cause of an outage on its network . "This issue has now been fully resolved and normal service has been restored to customers". Vodafone says they're now investigating, and have thanked customers for their patience. Out of those affected some 39 per cent are experiencing broadband issues while 33 per cent are having trouble with their Vodafone phone services. (more...)
