The Axios news website reported on Friday that Trump has frequently told advisers that the U.S. is always being deceived by the WTO , and that he doesn't know why his country is a member. But the president has not managed to convince White House officials , who, according to Axios have yet to put in place a policy process that would allow Trump to move forward with such a threat. President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he had received assurances from King Salman of Saudi Arabia that the kingdom will increase oil production, "maybe up to 2,000,000 barrels" in response to turmoil in Iran and Venezuela . Khalid Al Falih, Saudi Arabia's energy minister, stated that the new agreement implies an output increase of one million barrels per day, while other OPEC members indicated an increase of 500,000 to 800,000 bpd. Saudi Arabia's pledge followed a meeting earlier this month in Vienna of OPEC members, Russian Federation and other oil producing countries. Members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries agreed over the weekend to boost oil production by about 600,000 barrels a day. America's largest carmaker has added its voice to the chorus of companies and countries criticising proposed USA tariffs on foreign cars and auto parts. In 2017, Canada imported $4.3 billion in steel and $7.2 billion in aluminum to the United States. They will add 25 percent to the cost of imported United States steel and 10 percent to aluminum imports. (more...)
