Over the holidays, hospitalizations and intensive-care unit admissions remained high, as well. The province detected 1,226 new cases on December 30, 1,361 on December 31, 933 on January 1, 459 on January 2, and 1,128 on January 3. Across Alberta, there are now 13,839 active cases of COVID-19. Province-wide, 905 people are hospitalized due to COVID-19, with 136 requiring intensive care. (more...)

The ICMR reports that in Britain, new forms of the virus have been successfully isolated and cultured in all forms of national morphology. Dr. Barbara Yaffe, Ontario's Associate Chief Medical Officer of Health, announced the new cases at a press conference on Monday . "I can not emphasize how important this is". In the north, Thunder Bay's health unit is confirming eight new cases, bring the active case count to 57. The city is expected to announce the new measures for workplaces during a press conference at 2 p.m. on Monday. She said that starting today Toronto Public Health will release the location of workplace outbreaks on a weekly basis in circumstances where there is rampant or "sustained transmission" and "the workplace is large enough that the risk of privacy concerns are mitigated".
