Los Angeles County reported another 44 deaths on Thursday, for a cumulative total of 7,782 deaths from COVID-19 since the pandemic began. Almost 100 new cases of COVID-19 were identified in the past 24 hours, according to the DeKalb County Health Department , which on Friday reported 90 more cases in DeKalb County residents, bringing the total to 5,458. Approximately 800,000 doses are expected to arrive next week, with first priority going to nursing home residents and workers, and the most elderly citizens. Studies on the vaccine show it has to be stored at minus 70C but is also stable at 2C to 8C for a short time, meaning it could possibly be sent to different locations. (more...)

Alberta asks federal government, Red Cross for field hospitals as COVID spreads

Alberta Health Services is in contact with the Canadian Red Cross as part of a contingency plan in case it eventually needs to open temporary hospitals to ensure there are more beds. There were 504 people in hospital and 97 in ICUs on Wednesday. Phase 3 should begin in the fall and will be when the vaccine will be offered to all Albertans, Kenney said . (more...)

Fitch said veteran kicker Ryley Guay, last year's kicker who left the team for Vanderbilt's medical school, may cycle back into the team in time for Saturday's game pending his coronavirus tests and other SEC requirements. She was available because she was already in the athletic department's COVID-19 testing routine and because the Vanderbilt soccer season was over after the team won the SEC championship. (more...)

In an apparent victory for religious freedom during state efforts to impose necessary COVID restrictions, the Supreme Court on Thursday vacated the Ninth Circuit's ruling against California churches. The decision followed a similar action by the justices on November 25 that backed Christian and Jewish houses of worship that challenged NY state restrictions in coronavirus hot spots. (more...)
