They found that pregnant women were more likely than non-pregnant women to need intensive care, invasive ventilation and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation and were more likely to die from COVID-19. Moreover, the likelihood of dying was 70% higher for women in the pregnancy cohort vs. the nonpregnant cohort, particularly among Black women. In 2019, about 10% of live births were pre-term. The COVID-19 vaccine is one of the world's leading candidates. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has said vaccines must demonstrate at least 50% efficacy - meaning at least twice as many infections among volunteers who got a placebo as among those in the vaccine group. Alberta Health Services is offering optional influenza testing to residents in Central Alberta who are already going for COVID-19 testing. The north saw an increase of ten cases for a total of 422. Gustafson said there were now 2,945 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C., of which 90 were in hospital, including 19 in intensive care. In total, there are now 28 healthcare outbreaks within the province. A total of 24 long-term care or assisted-living facilities and two acute-care facilities are now dealing with active outbreaks. In the last stage before lockdowns, bars would have to stop serving drinks at 9 p.m. before closing an hour later. Toronto will remain in the modified stage two until November 14. The province said the goal is to have every public health unit region in the "prevent" level.
