The Eastern Ontario Health Unit is "strongly recommending" that you "avoid traditional ways of celebrating Halloween ", such as going door-to-door or handing out candy, given the significant increase in COVID-19 cases. Not congregate or linger at doorsteps and keep in mind to line up two metres apart if waiting. "A costume mask is not a substitute for a face covering and should not be worn over a face covering as it may make it hard to breathe", officials clarified. (more...)

An Indigenous community leader in eastern Canada is renewing his call for concrete action from the federal government after a lobster pound in the province of Nova Scotia was destroyed overnight Saturday. The two clashes earlier in the week involved hundreds of people outside lobster pounds that handle Indigenous-caught lobster. The two latest studies, one from Denmark and one from Canada , both appear to show that people with blood type O may be slightly less vulnerable to COVID-19 and have a reduced chance of getting severely ill. The researchers did not find any significant difference in the rate of infection between "A", "B", and "AB" types. Patients with blood types A and AB did not have longer hospital stays than those with types O or B, but they did experience longer intensive care unit stays, which may ... (more...)

Hinshaw also noted that Alberta now sits at a provincial positivity rate of 2.24% for all coronavirus tests that have been administered. As for Edmonton, Hinshaw continues to be concerned about the capital region's COVID-19 spread and asks Edmontonians to follow her voluntary restrictions this weekend to stop transmission. (more...)
