This may be because there is, as yet, not proper understanding of the virus that causes this deadly disease. In July, the NIH's vaccine working group published a paper in The New England Journal of Medicine pointing out the risks of doing a challenge study with a virus that so far has no good treatment and is wildly unpredictable, occasionally killing even some young, otherwise healthy people. The university said they are being supported with food and supplies and affected areas of the building are being given a deep clean. Professor Jonathan Ball from Nottingham University said its scheme had potentially prevented an outbreak. (more...)

There has now been, cumulatively, 238 school-related COVID-19 cases in Ontario: 110 students, 50 staff and 78 categorized as "individuals not identified". Today, for the second-consecutive day, Public Health Ontario reported 409 new COVID-19 cases. The news comes as the province's network of labs processed 41,800 tests for the novel coronavirus, though that figure includes tests that were left out of yesterday's update due to a temporary outage at Public Health Ontario. As of Wednesday morning, the country had recorded 146, 663 cases and 9,234 deaths. Canada already signed in August agreements in principle for candidate vaccines with American firms Novavax, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer and Moderna. Anand says Canada remains committed to COVAX and more details will come soon. COVAX has two groups: one any country can join to get access to vaccines, and a second to help low-income countries join. Separate QR codes must be created for each business location. According to the university, the affected individuals are now isolated and the 14 remaining students at the St. The university said all of its other residences are safe and the risk of exposure is low. AHS did not identify which health unit was affected, but did say outbreak control measures have been implemented, which means visitation is restricted to end-of-life situations until further notice.
