AstraZeneca, a front-runner in the race for a COVID-19 vaccine, said in a statement on September 8 that the company's "standard review process triggered a pause to vaccination to allow review of safety data". Trials for the AstraZeneca vaccine on 5,000 volunteers in Brazil are well advanced and have not produced any problems in participants, according to the immunobiology center of Sao Paulo's Federal University, which is running the trials. Mr Hancock set out more detail for mass testing plans, which could give someone a "pass" to know they are not infectious for at least 24 hours.
