Johns Hopkins University's COVID-19 tracker reported 965 coronavirus deaths and 50,502 new cases in the United States at the end of Friday, bringing the cumulative US totals to 188,096 deaths and more than 6.2 million infections. That panel of folks are likely to have spread the disease more widely, more efficiently in this case, than if it had been one person. In its search to find a vaccine, the company says it is using the same technologies for its COVID-19 vaccine that is used to make its experimental Ebola vaccine, which was offered to people in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Prime Minister also remains committed to ensuring early access to the vaccines for countries in the Pacific as well as regional partners in Southeast Asia. (more...)

Notification came from Curry General Hospital at 9:15 am; this current case has been verified and confirmed by the Health Officer through lab results. Four of the case are in the community and one is an imported case . Those indicators include the new cases per 100,000 people, number of deaths, weekly test positivity, ICU availability, weekly emergency department visits, weekly hospital admissions, tests performed and clusters. According to a British study, this low-priced steroid can reduce the risk of death of patients with severe forms of the disease by about 20%. The ward remains closed to new admissions with 17 members of staff also testing positive and "off work and self-isolating", along with 42 more "identified as potential contacts". (more...)

The decision to play sports will be determined by each individual school district. Executive Order 176 states that indoor gymnasiums and pools may re-open in regions where they were previously closed under Executive Order 160. (more...)

The average incidence rate in Ontario is 288.2 cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 people in the population. "I'm hearing from health units, as I talk to Peel and Toronto, they're dealing with clusters around social events".
