The site and surrounding areas were treated in efforts to prevent human cases of the virus, according to the district. There are no medications to treat or vaccines to prevent WNV infection. Make sure windows and doors are "bug tight". Those are the times when the mosquitoes that transmit WNV are most active. Wear a long sleeve shirt, long trousers, and a hat when going into mosquito-infested areas, such as wetlands or woods. (more...)

Robert Duncan, who chairs the Postal Service board of governors and is a former chairman of the Republican National Committee, will testify along with DeJoy, the Postal Service confirmed. Congress is at a standoff over postal operations. "Within days of his appointment, DeJoy has cut hours at some post offices, denied overtime to mail clerks and carriers, and required that carriers leave some mail behind", the letter states. In March, the government paused community coronavirus testing and tracing, a move that has since been widely criticised by health experts and scientific advisers. The organisation employs roughly about 5,500 staff made up of scientists, researchers and public health professionals. The Kane County Health Department reported a total of 10,366 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 305 deaths Monday. Toronto reported 26 new cases, Peel Region reported 25, Ottawa reported 19 and York Region added 7. With schools and colleges re-opening, the uptick in young people contracting the virus could intensify. "Recent evidence suggests that children likely have the same or higher viral loads in their nasopharynx compared with adults and that children can spread the virus effectively in households and camp settings", the CDC said. The province completed more 25,567 tests in the previous day. Of the province's 34 public health units, 17 - or half - reported no new cases today. No additional deaths were reported for the second straight day. There have been three fatal cases of COVID-19 in Ontario in the past week. Over the Greater Toronto Area, Peel Region listed the newest instances on Sunday with 27 diseases, in accordance with public health officials. (more...)

The Lake District town of Keswick in Cumbria saw the mercury rise to 24.8C on Saturday. One picture shows a rescue recovery boat helping a woman to safety as her vehicle sinks into the water. The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning with a forecast of heavy showers and thunderstorms today (Sunday 16 August) and tomorrow. The Met Office's yellow thunderstorm warnings remain in place across most of England and all of Wales until Monday night. (more...)
