The B.C. CDC says that from August 7 to August 13, 12 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Northeast B.C. Before this week, Northerneast B.C. had been three weeks without a positive case. There were no new deaths reported Thursday. And always stay home and stay away from others if you have symptoms of COVID-19, however mild. Data from the province showed current restrictions have kept society and the economy at approximately 70 per cent of pre-COVID levels. (more...)

Dr Lilith Whittles, a postdoctoral researcher in infectious disease epidemiology at Imperial College London , said at a COVID-19 webinar the United Kingdom is far off the level of population immunity needed to prevent a second wave. The tests were still deemed to be suitable for surveillance studies such as the Imperial research. Jeremy Faust told CNBC . NY in 1918 had a population of 5.5 million people, so the death rate of 287 per 100,000 person-months was greater than the 202 of the current covid-19 pandemic. Notably, the baseline mortality rates from 2017 to 2019 were less than half that observed from 1914 to 1917, thanks to improvements in hygiene and advancements in medicine, public health, and safety.
