New Covid-19 death in Hamilton County, record hospitalizations again

Philadelphia County reported 86 new cases, while the next highest counts came from Delaware County with 40 new cases and Montgomery and Bucks counties, which each posted 34 new cases. Westmoreland County added 21 new cases. The health department said 22,287 tests were conducted Monday as of 10 p.m. But just under 600 patients were in hospitals earlier this month. (more...)

While the study showed there was an immune response generated by the vaccine, scientists cautioned that direct evidence showing whether or not it would prevent or reduce actual novel coronavirus infection has not been documented yet. That vaccine, developed by the National Institutes of Health and Moderna, produced the molecules key to blocking infection in volunteers who got it, at levels comparable to people who survived a Covid-19 infection. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1.5% of the confirmed cases in the USA have been in children 4 years old or younger, while 0.2% of the country's COVID-19 deaths have been in kids from that age group. The child was brought to the hospital with unrelated symptoms and later died at home from sudden infant death syndrome. An autopsy is being conducted to determine the exact cause of death and whether the coronavirus contributed. (more...)

THERE HAVE been no new coronavirus deaths recorded in the Republic of Ireland. People in their forties are a close second at 19.1%. The DeKalb County Health Department says its tally is at 714 as of Friday with 23 deaths. According to the Saline County Health Department, the total for the county is now 301. Shelby County Health Department Sunday announced its 29th Shelby County resident has tested positive for COVID-19. (more...)

She said anyone who has flown recently in or out of B.C. should check the BC Centre for Disease Control for bulletins. He said that while there have been no deaths since Friday and the hospitalization rate has remained steady, deaths and hospitalizations tend to lag behind new infections. (more...)

Speaking with reporters on Monday, Ford said that having seven more regions move to Stage 3 is a "clear sign" that the province is making "steady progress" in the battle against COVID-19. This map shows the expected timeline for Stage 3 openings. Ford said his COVID-19 command table is discussing bar rules, but said municipalities have the power to impose their own stringent restrictions on businesses. (more...)

The AZD1222 vaccine is meant to induce both responses, so it can attack the virus when it's circulating in the body, as well as attacking infected cells. Professor Pollard explained that the immune system has two ways of finding and attacking pathogens: antibody and T cell responses. On Monday, the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit reported 18 new cases of COVID-19 in the region. It also allows larger social gatherings of 50 people indoors, and 100 people outside. Last week Premier Doug Ford announced that the majority of the province would enter the next phase of reopening on Friday, but the GTHA, Niagara region and Windsor-Essex were left back in Stage 2. The early-stage human trials involved around 1,077 people with the results showing that the participants produced antibodies and white blood cells that can fight the virus. A positive outcome had been widely expected after reports last week lifted the stock, with the vaccine already in more advanced trials. Ontario health officials are reporting a slight decrease in COVID-19 infections following a weekend uptick, but the number of new cases continues to outpace recoveries. The total positive tests in Essex County now sits at 1,964, 69 people have died and 1,303 people have recovered. Of those 115 patients, 37 are being treated in an intensive care unit, 24 of which are breathing with the assistance of a ventilator. (more...)
