Australia limits citizens' return as Victoria cases reach record

Australia's Victoria state reported the new daily record of coronavirus cases. All states and territories are expected to charge returning travellers for the cost of their 14-day quarantine. "This is a challenging day". The state's chief health officer warned there would be a sharp rise in hospitalizations, intensive care cases and deaths in the coming days as a result of the spike in infections. (more...)

Cipla launches generic version of remdesivir in India

The US-based company has launched a Phase Ia clinical trial of the inhaled version to evaluate the safety, tolerability and pharmacokinetics of the new formulation. Privately held Hetero Labs Ltd's version, Covifor , costs 5,400 rupees per vial while Mylan prices Desrem at 4,800 rupees. Sources said the first batch of 10,000 vials had been printed with a price of 4,000 rupees, 800 rupees below the cheapest option, launched by European competitor Mylan this week. (more...)

Melbourne's five million residents were ordered back into lockdown yesterday amid fears the city's outbreak could spread elsewhere. Premier Daniel Andrews confirmed that there had been 288 new cases , bringing the state's total to 3397, which has it overtaking NSW as the state with the highest number of cases. (more...)

The number of pneumonia cases in the capital city Nursultan have more than doubled this June from the same time previous year, according to Kazakhstan's prominent news agency Kazinform , which cited official data. The total in the county has now reached 43. Riley County has received confirmation of 8 new positive cases of COVID-19 since Tuesday's report. The total number of deaths in the county is now 13. A Person Under Investigation, is someone who has symptoms of COVID-19 and is waiting for test results. Symptoms include high fever , chills, nausea, weakness and swollen lymph nodes in the neck, armpit or groin. The Yersinia pestis bacteria can be transmitted to humans from infected rats via fleas . To support public health units' extensive efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19, Ontario is taking further action to redirect existing resources to focus squarely on the fight against this new virus while allowing for public health units to considerably increase their capacity.
