Public Health reported that 68 percent of the county's hospital beds were occupied as of Wednesday, with 4.9 percent of licensed hospital beds occupied by COVID-19 patients. In response to the surge in cases, Wolf issued a masking order for Pennsylvanians in public spaces and where social distancing is not possible. One Hardin County patient is hospitalized. (more...)

In an open letter to the World Health Organization , 239 scientists in 32 countries have reportedly argued particles smaller than what has previously been reported can carry the novel coronavirus and infect people. "For spaces where ventilation can not be increased, we recommend portable high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter air cleaners or possibly ultraviolet (UV) germicidal lights at the high end of need". "There is a risk of a human plague epidemic spreading in this city", local health officials said . What was once a devastating disease now has a 1-15 percent death rate depending on how quickly antibiotics are administered, so in areas with access to healthcare it poses very little threat. On Sunday, officials in Inner Mongolia , an autonomous region of China , recorded a case of bubonic plague , otherwise known as the Black Death , while another case was reportedly detected in neighbouring Mongolia. A year ago in May, a couple in Mongolia died from bubonic plague after eating the raw kidney of a marmot, thought to be a folk remedy for good health. (more...)

According to the authors of the study , roughly 95 percent of the general population in Spain remains susceptible to infection, though there are significant geographic disparities that coincide with the original rates of infection. "But we are very considerably from accomplishing that selection". Madrid, Spain's hardest-hit area, had an antibody prevalence of 10 percent while Barcelona had 7 percent antibody prevalence. The US Environmental Protection Agency has approved two Lysol products as effective against the novel coronavirus when used on hard, non-porous surfaces. Reckitt Benckiser has warned people against administering disinfectants into the body to treat the novel coronavirus, after President Trump's suggestion that injecting disinfectant might help people infected with the virus. Victoria State Premier Daniel Andrews said the lockdown would begin at midnight Wednesday and last at least six weeks, warning residents "we can't pretend" the epidemic crisis is over. But there is growing concern that most of Melbourne's new cases are not directly linked to residents returning from overseas.
