Preliminary data from the study - which is still underway and includes 750,000 participants, including 10,000 who told the company they had COVID-19 - indicates that people with Type O blood are between 9 and 18 percent less likely than those with other blood types to have tested positive for the disease. On Friday, 12 counties moved from yellow to the least-restrictive green phase. Data released by the Health Protection Surveillance Centre on Thursday night confirmed that eight more people with Covid-19 have died. (more...)

Ford stressed that he is listening to their advice, so Toronto can only move to the next stage if Dr. Eileen de Villa, the city's chief public health official, gives the green light. Other municipalities expressed some concerns about people travelling in from areas still in Stage 1 to take advantage of the looser restrictions. Other facilities, such as splash pads, will reopen in the coming week. (more...)

While new cases have been identified in all zones across the province, the Calgary zone continues to report the highest number of cases, with 204, and 4,724 recovered. In total, there have been 317,402 COVID-19 tests conducted across the province. Moderna has received US$483 million (RM2.05 billion) in U.S. government funding, and on May 18 announced its first results among eight participants from the first phase of testing, which were seen as encouraging. The reproduction or "R" number - the number of people an infected individual passes the virus onto - needs to stay below 1.0 for the pandemic to slow. From next week, face coverings will be compulsory on all public transport. Of course, it's a virtual impossibility for 100% of people to wear face masks (and all models are wrong, remember), but this is a good indication of how useful masks can be. (more...)
