CDC now says COVID-19 'does not spread easily' on surfaces, objects

Although when the change was made is not now clear, the federal health agency appears to have subtly shifted its guidelines from March which simply said it "may be possible" to spread the virus from contaminated surfaces. Gov. Phil Murphy , who has been slowly easing the state's COVID-19 restrictions in recent days, said he wasn't sure Friday. Alastair Buxton, director of NHS services at the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee (PSNC), said community pharmacies "could offer a safe and convenient location for local communities and patients to access antibody tests ". "PSNC remains in regular dialogue with NHS England and Improvement who we expect will be involved in planning any wider rollout of antibody testing", he added. (more...)

Ad5-nCoV uses a weakened version of a common cold virus (known as an adenovirus ) - which infects human cells but doesn't cause disease - to deliver a fragment of genetic material from SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. Messenger RNA prompts body cells to produce so-called antigens, molecules on the surface of viruses, that spur the immune system into action. According to the province's Framework for Reopening the Province , Stage 2 of reopening - which is only to begin "if the initial loosening of public health measures is successful" - includes opening more workplaces, outdoor spaces and allowing some larger public gatherings. On Saturday, provincial health officials reported a 1.7 per cent increase in cases from the previous day, bringing the province-wide total to 25,040. The premier's announcement comes after new cases in the province have slowly continued to rise over the past week. (more...)

A total of 1,993 people have died from coronavirus in Ontario, and there are 5,051 cases now under investigation. The Ministry of Health yesterday reminded New Zealanders there was a maximum of 10 people allowed at gatherings. As per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), hospitals and institutions planning to provide the treatment should do so using protocols that have been cleared by the Institutional Ethics Committee. Fifty-four people are in the hospital and six are in intensive care. Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw will provide COVID-19 updates on Monday, Wednesday and Friday next week. The drug has been tied to unsafe heart rhythm problems.
