A coronavirus vaccine could be ready by September, according to an Oxford professor who said she was 80 per cent confident the vaccine she was working on would be ready in only five months. Gilbert said the lockdown measures imposed in the United Kingdom would make it hard to test a vaccine because the virus is not spreading as quickly, but said it could be trialed in countries where social distancing measures are less strict, thereby indicating more quickly whether the vaccine is effective. Plasma from recovered donors contains antibodies they produced to help fight off the virus and can help attack the virus when transfused into critically ill patients who are unable to fight the virus on their own.
