South Korea is grappling with the largest outbreak of the virus outside China, as a new death took the toll to 17, amid a record daily increase in infections since the country confirmed its first patient on January 20. Of the total, 3,381 showed infection symptoms. This brings the total to 78,824 confirmed cases and 2,788 deaths. Urging people to avoid unnecessary travel, Tehran extended its closure of cinemas, cultural events and conferences for another week. (more...)

Governor Jay Inslee issued an emergency proclamation in the state to coordinate the response to the illness. Health officials reported Friday night that two new coronavirus cases were identified in King and Snohomish Counties. But the state said the actual number has been "substantially lower". The woman is Oregon's first case of COVID-19 since the global outbreak began in December.
