The New Mexico Department of Health said in a news release Monday that two clients of VIP Spa in Albuquerque who received "vampire facials" past year were recently infected with the same HIV strain. Health officials are now urging people who have undergone injections, including vampire facials, at this spa to come in for a free testing for HIV as well as hepatitis B and C. (more...)

Three new measles cases have been confirmed here in metro Atlanta. Officials say they have recorded 695 measles cases this year, the highest number since the disease was declared eliminated nearly two decades ago. This includes illnesses reported by state health departments to the CDC through April 19 and therefore does not include cases reported since then. According to the CDC , the worst post-2000 measles outbreak was recorded in Amish communities in OH, affecting 383 people. It makes it the worst year for measles since 1994. The Triatoma sanguisuga got its moniker as a kissing bug because of its habit of biting the faces of its victims. Previously, a report of a suspected kissing bug in Kent County was sent to Texas A&M, which confirmed the bug via photograph, but a local institution in DE had initially identified the insect as a milkweed bug instead and destroyed the evidence before the university could examine it for further confirmation, according to the CDC .
