A Death Review Panel is recommending the provincial government to regulate and oversee treatment and recovery programs and facilities as part of the fight against the overdose crisis. Indigenous people were also overrepresented (10 per cent) compared to their total population (3.4 per cent) within the province. The illnesses in IL, which have resulted in 60 hospitalizations, have been associated with use of synthetic marijuana products, the health department said. A newly published study suggests adult human brains can produce as many new brain cells as younger brains. Unlike mice and nonhuman primates, in which neurogenesis has been shown to decrease with age, the hippocampus of the human brains studied showed that neural progenitor cells and immature neurons were present in similar numbers regardless of age. Jerome Adams said during a speech at the National Rx Drug Abuse and Heroin Summit in Atlanta. Naloxone, commonly known under its brand name, Narcan, can quickly revive an opioid overdose patient who has slowed or stopped breathing. As of July 2017, all 50 states have passed laws improving naloxone access, the nonprofit said.
