The blood tests found about 70 percent of eight common types of cancer in the 1,005 patients. Five of the cancers covered by the test now have no screening test . "A novelty of our classification method is that it combines the probability of observing various DNA mutations together with the levels of several proteins in order to make the final call", said Cristian Tomasetti, PhD , associate professor of oncology and biostatistics, who developed the algorithm. More than 550 blood drives were canceled due to the weather conditions in January, Red Cross officials said. She said O-negative type blood is always in short supply this time of year.
