Remdesivir, sold under the brand Veklury, is used to treat those with pneumonia who need extra oxygen to breathe. Remdesivir has also been given emergency authorization in the U.S., Europe, Japan, Singapore and Australia. The Penn State University Athletic Conference, home to 14 Penn State branch campuses, announced Friday it is postponing fall athletics - soccer, cross country, golf and women's volleyball - due to the covid-19 pandemic. Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (HCOM ) HCOM successfully began classes on the Athens, Dublin and Cleveland campuses in July using a hybrid approach and will continue with the same approach throughout the fall semester. Sanofi is facing separate charges of aggravated fraud and unintentionally causing injury in 42 cases filed by families, but insists it had warned health authorities of the drug's risks already in the 1980s. The news came close on the heels of GlaxoSmithKline and Sanofi's announcement on Monday that they were in advanced talks with the European Commission to supply up to 300m doses of a Covid-19 vaccine once it's ready. The total number of COVID-19 deaths for Coles County was confirmed with IDPH to be 18 to date. There has been one death associated with a long-term care facility. However, an Observer analysis of data from the county's "daily hospital census" shows the average is 198 people. The three deaths, according to a news release from the Governor's Office Sunday, consisted of two men in their 40s, one from Chaves County and the other from Rio Arriba County. (more...)
