She was exhumed in 1975 when the church was renovated. Born in Basel in 1719, Anna Catharina Bischoff married a church minister, and lived most of her adult life in Strasbourg. Tests have revealed that her death was most likely due to mercury poisoning. With a 99.8 per cent probability that the descendants and the mummy were all from the same maternal line, the scientists and historians were confident that the mummy is Anna Catharina Bischoff.
