Charlottesville city officials said in a statement Sunday that "Heyer was struck down by a vehicle while exercising her peaceful first-amendment right to speech". Speaking at a vigil at the scene of the crash, she said Ms Heyer's death was "an act of terror" and a hate crime - and should be treated as such. A 20-year-old man from OH is being held and could face a second-degree murder charge. (more...)

A 17-year-old Malden boy is accused of smashing a glass panel on the memorial on Monday. Police were alerted around 6:40 pm and the boy was held down by two bystanders until they arrived. The teen hurled a rock through a glass panel etched with numbers, representing those tattooed on the arms of the Jews and others in the concentration camps operated by Nazi Germany, police said .
