Six people safely boarded a tugboat, Steinmiller said. The barge contains about 133,000 barrels of crude oil, according to a Coast Guard news release. Friday morning's barge fire just offshore from Port Aransas has led to a temporary closure at the Port of Corpus Christi. The US Coast Guard was responding to the fire two miles off of Texas's San Jose Island, the report said, and a safety zone was set up around the barge to keep out incoming traffic. (more...)

More than a dozen North Carolina high school students escaped injury after their school bus caught fire. Superintendent Clayton Wilcox praised the efforts of both students and bus driver in safely evacuating before the explosion. "And that's when the front just exploded", said Rushing. Fortunately the school bus driver was able to restart the bus only to have smoke begin billowing from the engine compartment a couple miles into the route. (more...)
